Headquartered in Cambridge, England, AstraZeneca is a global, research-led biopharmaceutical manufacturer of medicines that treat major diseases. When the company decided to transform an existing warehouse in Cheshire into a state-of-the-art packaging and distribution center, Stonhard’s seamless flooring was recommended by design-led construction company Boulting Environmental Services to meet the facility’s specific environmental requirements.
As part of this large-scale flooring project, Stonhard installed nearly 70,000 square feet of durable, high-performance epoxy flooring systems throughout AstraZeneca’s new production facility and cleanroom. Stonfil OP2, a three-component polymer osmotic pressure-resistant grout, was used to eliminate osmotic blistering of the floor caused by excess moisture.
For added protection, Stonhard’s Stongard MR positive-side waterproofing membrane was specified for the facility rooms and workshop areas. Next, the Stontec ERF decorative epoxy flake flooring system was installed in the new-build cleanroom.
“With nearly 100 years in business, the experience that Stonhard has gained in pharma and wider sectors underpinned the design and installation of this flooring project for AstraZeneca,” said Steve Lyon, contracts manager for Stonhard. “We’re delighted that our manufacturing and installation capabilities have now been recognized by such an important supplier to the global pharmaceutical industry.”
Providing support to 130 global markets, AstraZeneca’s new, state-of-the-art packaging and distribution center is now the second largest global manufacturing facility for medicines like the legacy prostate cancer drug, Zoladex.
