The Situation:
In May 2015, Porsche Cars North America (PCNA), the exclusive U.S. importer of Porsche sports cars, opened its new $100 million headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. Designing a one-of-a-kind facility, the team at PCNA knew they needed building materials that were as unique as their vision. PCNA contracted HOK, a global design architectural, engineering and planning firm, that began looking for a custom flooring solution that would offer a sleek, dramatic aesthetic and superior durability.
The Solution:
After considering various flooring options ranging from large-format tile to polished concrete, HOK chose Stonhard to deliver a high-performance, “sexy-looking version of asphalt” that would match the facility’s high-profile, 30,000-square-foot atrium and lobby. With this unique look in mind, Stonhard recommended its Crush resinous, troweled flooring system from the company’s Liquid Elements product line. Featuring a bold and organic look aligned with Porsche’s brand, the flooring has a textured resin surface that is slip and scratch resistant and easy to clean.
The Result:
To achieve this look, Stonhard installed its Crush flooring system over its Stonproof RH7 fiberglass membrane system and Stonset TG5 fast-setting, epoxy-based grout. In addition, the company selected its eco-friendly Stonclad GR troweled epoxy mortar flooring for PCNA’s classic car restoration area, workshop, storage room, labs, custom delivery area and car wash. The floors were sealed with Stonhard’s Stonkote GS4 epoxy coating for a sophisticated, durable gloss finish that protects against abrasion and chemicals.
Stonhard’s state-of-the-art facility design continues to impress Porsche customers who visit the North American headquarters. In fact, a Florida car collector was inspired to build his own high-end garage featuring Stonhard GS flooring to house his impressive car collection.
