Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Rust-Oleum has remained actively committed to giving back to its local communities around the world. Through its Rust-Oleum Cares program, the company has found creative ways to continue supporting non-profits that change, restore and transform communities—such as hosting a virtual 5k fundraiser in July.
Most recently, as parents and children prepared to return to school, the Rust-Oleum Cares committee organized a virtual, companywide effort to donate 1,920 backpacks filled with school supplies to various charities—like Feeding America’s BackPack program—selected by associates across the organization.
As part of this effort, the Rust-Oleum Cares committee purchased school supplies for all locations across the company. Associates at the corporate headquarters assembled take-home backpack kits for fellow volunteers to pick up and stuff with school supplies at home with their families. Once returned to the office, the backpacks were then delivered to two charities near Rust-Oleum’s headquarters in Vernon Hills, Illinois. In addition, associates across each of the company’s plants and distribution centers, led by local Rust-Oleum Cares “champions,” selected charities of choice and decided which school items to include in their backpack kits. The kits were then shipped directly to the chosen charities.
All of Rust-Oleum’s associates have a voice in who the Rust-Oleum Cares program helps—inspired by the goal to make this a truly associate-driven program. Through volunteer opportunities, sponsorships, monetary and in-kind donations, Rust-Oleum Cares has supported a variety of non-profit organizations since 2014, including Feeding America, Wounded Warrior, American Red Cross, Partners in Health, Save the Children, No Kid Hungry and more.
A big thanks to our hardworking Rust-Oleum associates for going above and beyond to find creative ways to give back to their local communities.
