From the CEO: Covid-19 Vaccine Key to Return to Normalcy

Ten months ago, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine called to ask if I was interested in heading the state’s Economic Advisory Board. I accepted the opportunity as both a great privilege and an enormous undertaking.

Along with the governor and 17 other notable business leaders, I worked diligently to help pave the best path for moving Ohio’s economy forward amid the pandemic. Though that work continues, there is light at the end of the tunnel. To quote the governor as he formed our advisory board last April, “The sun will come out. We will have the opportunity to move forward.”

That opportunity is now, and it requires widespread vaccination. Thankfully, as a result of the diligence of scientists and health officials, that time has finally arrived. In the coming weeks, many of us will have the opportunity to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. I encourage all of you—and your loved ones—to get the vaccine when it becomes available in your community.

Inoculation is our most effective way to beat this deadly virus and return to our pre-pandemic normalcy. Though I’m certainly no medical expert, I have taken heed of the best scientists and doctors in our country, and interacted with our world-renowned local health care leaders while serving on the Ohio Economic Advisory Board. I’ve received the same recommendation from all parties—to get vaccinated.

There are three main reasons why it’s critical that all of us should take this action together:

  1. Widespread Vaccination is the Most Effective Way to End Covid-19

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) both recommend inoculation, fully believing it is in the best interest of all American citizens. Likewise, our international associates are also urged by the World Health Organization (WHO) to get the available vaccines in their communities.

By receiving the Covid-19 vaccine, you will be doing your part to help protect yourself and those around you against the virus. It’s our best chance at beating this pandemic.

Although the CDC has acknowledged there may be some side effects to the vaccine, they should be considered “normal signs that your body is building protection”—and, as such, not be a cause for alarm.

  1. An Effective Vaccine Will Return Us to Normalcy

This pandemic has impacted all of us in different ways—greatly testing our mental, physical and emotional strength. Through an effective Covid-19 vaccine, we will be far better equipped to beat this virus—helping us return to a sense of normalcy. In addition to allowing many of us at RPM to return to our workplaces and interact with customers, it will open the door back up to the possibility of large family gatherings, visiting with loved ones and traveling.

  1. It Will Help Our Company Continue to Grow

The Covid-19 pandemic has had an enormous and devastating impact across our global community, resulting in an unprecedented public health crisis, loss of human life, widespread unemployment and more. Through all this, one silver lining has been the increased demand for our consumer products for DIY projects as people spend significantly more time at home.

While I certainly hope the consumer demand trend continues, many of our industrial coatings, sealants and building materials companies heavily rely on new construction and renovation projects in order to sustain and grow their businesses over the long run. Widespread vaccination will ultimately help them get back to pre-pandemic levels of growth.

Make no mistake that getting the vaccine is the best way you can play your part in helping to put an end to this global pandemic and get the global economy back on track.

As always, I’m grateful for your perseverance during these extraordinarily challenging times. Your efforts are truly making a difference every day. Let’s keep the momentum going.

FCS-with-maskVery truly yours,

Frank C. Sullivan
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
